"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said items including infant oil, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepchild contacted the police about his suspicions.

She said the man proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The legal representative said the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson called the police a second time.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
